Designated Child Protection/E-safety Governor

I am a Devonian by birth but have lived with my family in the Dover area for over thirty years. My wife Pauline and I have three daughters and a son, all now grown up and living away from home with children of their own. We are retired and enjoy travel, arts and craft, music, sport (particularly Rugby), natural history, and spending time with our four grandchildren, or with our friends in a walking group. I am a member of the Kent Wildlife Trust and our village history and gardening societies. I attend a watercolour class and plan walking itineraries for our group foreign holidays.

Since retiring to the village of St Margaret’s at Cliffe, I have had the privilege of being invited to join the Governing Body of a number of local schools as a Community Governor. I am also a volunteer Countryside Access Warden for KCC and have recently finished a term of office as a Parish Councillor.

After graduating in Geography and Geology, I entered the teaching profession – first in Field Centres and then in secondary schools. My final role was as a Deputy Headteacher in Dover with responsibility for student welfare and discipline.

My roles as a classroom teacher and as a school senior leader have given me the necessary insight and experience to offer informed support and advice to the school as a critical friend. I also have the flexibility to give time to the school during the working day when required. My special expertise as a Deputy Head was in Safeguarding and I am now the designated governor for Child Protection and E‑safety at STS.

I am keen to contribute to the development of STS to ensure that it is the best possible school for its diverse community of students. To achieve this I will strive to ensure that the school achieves the highest possible standards of performance in all that it tries to do.
