Sixth Form Transition Year
September 2018 will be an exciting time for the Sandwich Technology School Sixth Form, with two new enhancements to the curriculum. The first is the introduction of a programme that is unique to this area – a Transition Year. Students who don’t quite secure the GCSE grades that they need to study Level 3 courses will be supported through the Transition Year to improve their grades, study new and different GCSEs and be A Level ready by the end of the year.
The second development is a renewed pledge from Chelsea Football Club to invest in the STS Football Academy as it continues its journey to become an undisputed centre of excellence. This commitment coincides with the appointment of a new Head of the Football Academy – Mr Graham Webb. Mr Webb is a highly qualified and experienced football coach and teacher and comes to STS from Gillingham FC. Under his leadership, students in the Football Academy will not only receive an excellent, bespoke education, but also benefit from being a part of the STS Sixth Form and the wider community.
The Football Academy team will be further bolstered by the appointment of Mr Oliver Prior. Mr Prior, who is currently an excellent PE teacher at STS, is moving across to the Football Academy where he will take the lead on the BTEC qualification, not only in the Football Academy, but across the whole school.
Headteacher, Tracey Savage, said: “I genuinely believe that students will be impressed by what the STS Sixth Form has to offer them next year – it will be an exciting place to be. If students decide to join us, we will go out of our way to help them settle in and they will feel valued – enjoying a rich and varied curriculum as well as having fun! We are very proud of the fact that virtually all of our students progress on to either university, employment or apprenticeships.”
