New Intake 2020
We would like to welcome our new intake students and their parents and carers to the STS family.
We know that the transfer to secondary education is an exciting time, but also recognise the apprehension that you might feel. We want to do all that we can to answer your questions, allay your fears and ensure that you feel confident and prepared for the year ahead. Traditionally, we would have invited you to an Information Evening as a first step in your induction, but the coronavirus has required us to take a different approach.
As we have not been able to meet with you in person, our Headteacher, Mrs Tracey Savage, and our Head of Year 7, Mr Luke Wakeley, have recorded the following presentations. Please do take time to view their content and learn more about the journey that we are about to embark on together.
We recognise that students who have special educational needs or disabilities might have additional questions about the transition process and the support that is available. Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, Mrs Judith Goodrich, would be happy to help in this regard and can be contacted by email: email@example.com. Mrs Goodrich has also provided the following virtual tour of our school so that your child can start to become familiar with the school site.
Free School Meals
If your child is currently registered to receive Free School Meals, that entitlement will automatically transfer to secondary education and no action is needed.
For some of you, your financial situation might have been affected by the coronavirus and you may wish to check whether or not you are eligible to receive this benefit. For every child registered for Free School Meals, the Government gives extra funding to schools to help children from lower income families to do their very best. With this money we can continue to improve our students' learning experience and achievement. More information about this funding and how it is used can be found on the following page of our website:

This page also provides a link to the KCC saver scheme bus pass. If you should decide to purchase a pass, please ensure that you apply within the stated deadline - if you apply after this date, the pass may not arrive with us for distribution in September and you may have to pay fares in the interim.
School uniform is supplied by The School Uniform Specialists (TSUS). Ordinarily they would hold a selling event in school for our new intake, but this will not be possible in 2020 owing to the coronavirus. Instead, they are offering free home delivery for all online orders of over £100 placed by 3 August and they have provided the following information leaflet:
In order to place an order you will need to know which of our four Colleges your child is joining as this dictates the colour of the trim on their uniform. If your child has a sibling at our school, they will be placed in the same College. If not, we will let you know as soon as possible which College has been allocated - we hope to do this by mid-June.

An information pack has been posted to you, with a covering letter that explains some of the next steps in the transition process. These include a one-to-one telephone conversation with a member of our Leadership Team and a possible Transition Day in July, but, naturally, all of our plans have to take account of the coronavirus and evolving Government advice. We will email you with confirmed arrangements when we can.
The pack sent to you includes a number of forms for completion and we would ask you to complete and return these to us as soon as possible. The information provided will help us to plan appropriately and effectively for your child's admission.
