Headteacher's Message

Thank you for visiting the website of Sandwich Technology School and taking an interest in us.  I hope you find the information provided here useful and informative.

STS is an oversubscribed, 11 to 18, mixed, secondary school that has an excellent reputation across Kent.  In the words of Ofsted (July 2015) “Students’ behaviour in classrooms and around the school is a strength of the school” and “Good teaching is characterised by teachers’ encouraging relationships with their students and clear expectations”.   In Ofsted’s most recent visit, they recognised STS to be good in all categories.

The success of our students from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form is due to the ‘can do, will do’ attitude that is the hallmark of staff and students alike.  At STS we ‘Hold fast that which is good’: a broad and engaging curriculum; interesting, inspiring and innovative classroom practice; as well as a whole host of enriching extra-curricular activity.  Throughout their time at STS the students are provided with quality advice, support and guidance to help them progress and grow academically, personally and vocationally.  We recognise and celebrate diversity and understand that a ‘one size fits all’ approach is inappropriate for the unique individuals we serve.

The school’s pastoral system is a real strength as it allows the students to learn from each other.  The Year 7 students benefit from the support and advice of their Year 8 colleagues in their tutor groups as they settle into their new school.  Similarly, as the Year 9 students embark on their new GCSE studies, they have Year 10 colleagues on hand to offer encouragement. Year 11 students are in study-focused tutor groups where they receive specialist support and input to help them at this extremely important time in their lives.  Years 12 and 13 mix together in tutor groups that are, again, designed to give specialist, age appropriate and useful guidance from both peers and their tutors.  This fosters a real community spirit throughout the school and a healthy sense of competition between the school’s colleges: Discovery, Endeavour, Liberty and Union.  I am delighted that the students are proud of this school – a fact that I think speaks for itself
