Sixth Form Reader Leaders

We were thrilled on Wednesday to welcome Saadia from the Children’s Literacy Charity to the Library for a day of training in the Reader Leaders programme for 9 of our sixth form volunteers.

The programme helps both Readers and Leaders to raise standards of literacy, boost their self-esteem and enable them to better access the full range of learning opportunities offered by us, their school.

Each of the volunteers are now trained in all aspects of the reading process, including phonics and reading comprehension. They will shortly be engaging in an 18-week one-to-one reading support programme with some of our younger students.

They worked hard in the training and are committing to giving up a hefty chuck of their time to help improve literacy in our younger students – we are very proud of them.
