On  Tuesday night a selection of Year 7 Boys played Goodwin Academy at home. With each performance the boys are improving and this fixture witnessed the boys triumph 4-2, with goals from the reliable and prolific Henry Wilson, who has now scored 2 in 2 games, Ryan Bailey, Tom Bavington Jones and Lenny Laker. Lenny Laker’s final goal for Sandwich was superb, hit first time from the left side of the 18 yard box with the outside of the foot, which saw the opposition helpless as it curled to the far post looking like something out of the repertoire of a Brazilian legend!

In training we had worked on shooting first time or at least as early as possible and getting touch tight, goal side when defending and Using pressure cover depth whilst defending as a team.  This was our focus for this match.

The game started cagey with some good passages of play from both sides.  Damian Nield was outstanding in stopping their best player from scoring who was playing at right back and was an early contender for man of the match.   At half time the score was 2-1, Sandwich scoring the first 2 early on by the ever dependable Wilson and Bailey, the latter who was impressive scoring on his school debut.  Just before the half time break Sandwich conceded with some late pressure by Goodwin.

In the second half, Sandwich scored 2 more goals but capitulated towards the end of the game with Goodwin dominating spells inside our half.  Man of the match was Jude Patterson who was asked to do a difficult job at centre back, but organised his defence confidently, communicated with his team mates superbly, cleared the ball in dangerous areas several times and made crucial tackles when it looked likely to concede a goal.

Kieran Barton made some impressive stops in goal which contributed to the final score, and with an impressive midfield of the industrious Tom Bavington Jones, The majestic, skill laden Prezlee Shrubshall and the solid and creative Mason Powell, the win was secured.  The Boys did a great job!
