Our Yr 12 history students went on a whistle stop tour of Canterbury Cathedral before getting to meet Cressida Williams (Archives and Library Manager, Canterbury Cathedral) and Fawn Todd (Librarian, Canterbury Cathedral). Students were shown around the Cathedral’s library, able to ask questions of ‘professional historians’ as well as being shown primary sources about Canterbury’s role in the witch hunts of the 1600s and the abolition of slavery movement of the 1800s.

Mrs Williams even took the time to locate records from St Laurence Church in Ramsgate, where a 18th Century vicar had kept impeccable death records about his parishioners helping us understand the lives of people at the time. This trip was an incredible opportunity for our students, with some now starting to reach out to other archives to continue researching local history and work experience.
